The First Amendment guarantees Philip R. Greaves absolute freedom to publish “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-lover’s Code of Conduct” whether the government likes it or not. Constitutionally, there’s not a damn thing they can do about it. And if someone representing Amazon.com was stupid enough to contractually agree to sell it, they’re stuck, too.
Am I happy knowing this book is out there, available to perverts everywhere? Hell, no. What can I do about it? Well, not buying anything from Amazon.com seems like a pretty good place to start. I can also put pressure on those in Washington to make sure sales of Greaves’ work are monitored by law enforcement. In the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, that’s just about it.
Oh, and I can also rant about it on my silly little blog…

“I didn’t like it when people criticized me, and so you’re not going to see me out there chirping away (at Obama). And I want our president to succeed. I love our country.” – President George W. Bush
In the midst of his whirlwind book tour, our former President rose above the petty partisan bickering that’s infected Washington of late. Compared to Rush Limbaugh, who famously stated he hopes Obama fails, Bush showed himself to be a class act.
I have to give credit where credit is due.

“I do think that there is a tone and tenor that needs to change, where we can disagree without being disagreeable or making wild accusations about the other side. And I think that’s what most Americans would like to see, as well.”
That was President Obama’s response to Harry Smith’s “vitriol” question during CBS’ Early Show yesterday. Those on the Right heard Obama was taking away their Right to Free Speech. I don’t get it.
When the Labor Department released March’s job numbers – the best numbers in three years – those on the Right criticized the President’s economic policies. The current Administration is a failure. As opposed to the previous Administration?
I don’t get it.

Even the right-leaning Associated Press can’t ignore the facts: The Obama recovery is in full-swing. I’m sure it was painful to admit, but this is the title they were forced to use when the latest job numbers came out: Employers added most jobs in 3 years in March.
According to the Labor Department, employers added 162,000 jobs in March, the most in a single month since the recession began back in 2007.
For all those skeptics, Census jobs were far fewer than experts expected. There were significant gains in the fields of manufacturing, health-care, hospitality, and even construction. For all those skeptics, the revised numbers for the past couple of months were actually higher than original estimates. For all those skeptics, the average work-week increased to 34 hours from 33.9.
Bottom-line: Bush policies got us into a mess, Obama’s polices got us out of it.

After all the recent violence directed at democrats who passed health-care reform, after the FBI broke up a terrorist plot by a Christian militia group, after President Obama offered an olive-branch to the Tea Party movement, guess what we’re hearing from the Right?
More of the same.
Praise for Sarah Palin, and her “reload” rhetoric. Anger at the FBI for targeting Conservative Christians. And a big fat “No thanks.” to the President’s call for peace.
Now, Palin can say whatever the hell she wants to. But calling out the news media for reporting acts of violence? If she had any balls, she’d tell her rabid followers to ratchet it back a little. That’s what McCain did in 2008, and he deserves credit for that.
The FBI wasn’t “targeting Christian Conservatives”. They stopped a plot to kill cops. Isn’t that their job? No one is lumping these lunatics together with the larger, somewhat normal group. Well, except many on the right, claiming the FBI is guilty of political profiling.
The moment the President finished speaking on the Today Show, incensed Tea-Partiers started banging away on their keyboards. Obama’s a commie. Obama’s a Kenyan. A Muslim. The anti-Christ. We want our America Back. Et cetera, et cetera, ad-nauseum.
As to the title of this post. For better or worse, we live in the Digital Age. The foundation of which is that all reality can be broken down into ones and zeros. Everything is either black or white. Good or evil. The switch is either on or off. Period. In politics, that means you’re either on the Left or the Right. You side with Palin or Obama. There is no middle ground.
We can’t sustain this self-destructive mentality. The world isn’t black or white. In the real world, there are a million shades of gray.
